The eleventh edition of ATMEX in Huatulco, Oaxaca, closes successfully
Transforming consciences. “No one protects what they do not love, and they do not love what they do not know,” said Antonio del Rosal, General Coordinator of ATMEX. “Through our experiences in nature, we can demonstrate to our travelers that we are part of, not separate from nature. With this superpower, our sector must become a factory of change agents that allow us the transformation we urgently need as a society and as a species facing the catastrophe that is already here—global warming.”
Throughout this edition, there were 684 attendees, including 48 national and international buyers, 21 representatives from national and international media, 23 international-level speakers, and 78 suppliers representing 17 destinations in Mexico: Huatulco, Oaxaca, Baja California Sur, Puebla, Mexico City, Campeche, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Michoacán, Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Tamaulipas, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Yucatán, Jalisco, and 1 international destination, Argentina, which participated in ATMEX for the third time with a delegation of 16 companies and representatives.
At the Marketplace, more than 1,385 scheduled business meetings took place, which are estimated to generate $194.7 million pesos (USD $ 10.7 M) in sales next year, in addition to the alliances that are generated during the natural networking at the event.
Before the event, Huatulco and Oaxaca, with operators from Costa Magia, Expediciones Sierra Norte, and Chimalli Meetings & Travel, offered 4 familiarization trips in which buyers and media invited to the event participated to discover what Oaxaca has to offer.
Additionally, on October 18, the 1-day Adventures were held, which are single-day activities exclusively in the Host destination, attended by 242 delegates to explore the entire tourism product offered by the host destination. Huatulco, as the venue for ATMEX, offered the most 1-day Adventures in the history of ATMEX, with 21 adventures.
During the 3 days of the event, ATMEX generated approximately $6.7 million pesos (USD $370 K) in tourism economic spill in Huatulco, emphasizing the importance of such events in promoting local tourism offerings and reaffirming Oaxaca and Bahías de Huatulco’s position as tourist landmarks nationally and internationally.
